FAQ

What number do I call in an emergency?
During weekdays 10 AM to 4 PM, call 503-819-0685.
For after-hours water emergencies, call David Jacob, Water Operator at 503-310-9262

Where does my water come from?
SAWC purchases its water through a contract with the City of Sandy. Water is piped from the Bull Run Watershed near Mount Hood and delivered to Sandy’s new reservoir through the Portland transmission pipeline. The portion of the Skyview system along Lusted Road is sourced with water from the Portland water line.

Are we hooked up to the Sandy water line?
We completed the intertie connection to Sandy  on June 22, 2014 after which time all members, except those along Lusted Road, receive water from the City of Sandy.

Is my water different since the switchover to Sandy?
That water to be provided by Sandy has different characteristics than the water previously supplied by the City of Portland. Sandy’s point of connection to the Portland system is at a different location than Skyview’s current connection. As a result, the disinfectant type (free chlorine) and concentration is different than the disinfectant type (chloramine) and concentration previously furnished by Portland.

Why does my water pressure seem to vary?
Since switching our supplier to the City of Sandy, customers may notice a difference in their water pressure. Before calling, we ask you to check the following: check water on an outside hose bib and/or bathtub. If the pressure is strong there, but weak through other household fixtures, please clean out faucet screens and check again.  If it still seems weak, then please call for customer service 503-819-0685.

How can I get a water meter?
Since SAWC switched over to the City of Sandy reservoir (which has a 1 million gallon capacity) at the end of June 2014, there are additional service connections available. The Board of Directors has set policies for how requests for new service connections are handled. See the Rates page for a list of  system connection fees. You can download an an application for a new service connection or call 503-819-0685 to have one mailed to you.

How many new connections will be available?
Our Sandy Water Purchase contract has set a limit of 10 new meters per calendar year.

How much water is a unit?
A unit of water= 100 cubic feet= 748 gallons. There are 7.48 gallons in a cubic foot of water.

Does every customer pay the same base rate each month?
Yes, every customer is billed for one base rate each month, regardless of water use.

Is my water fluoridated?
No. Neither Sandy nor SAWC adds any fluoride to the water.

How often is the water tested?
Water is tested weekly. See Water Quality.

Do I have to belong to the SAWC?
No, membership is voluntary. Only those households with SAWC-owned meters are eligible for membership.

What is the process for leaving the SAWC?
A customer can leave by providing written notice to SAWC. The water service will be disconnected, the base fee discontinued, and the membership will terminate, as per SAWC Bylaws, section 2.4.
